| Learn the secrets of being an agile developer with Kent Beck and Cynthia Andres |
| “Agility is a state of being, it’s something you are, not something you do”
Overview: Being an agile developer isn’t an easy task. You need to know a lot about different technical disciplines, various programming languages, databases, server architecture etc. You also need to understand the domain well enough to ask the customers the right questions and develop the needed functionality. And finally you need to be a good team member. This workshop will start you on a enlightening life long journey striving for completing your skills in becoming an agile developer. You already know the basic skills in being an agile developer. You have used JUnit, TTD, continuous integration, Scrum or other iterative development methods. During exercises and lectures you will learn tips and tricks which will help you improving your team skills. You will explore your programming skills and expand your capacity and capability as a agile developer. You will discover how to improve the way you build and deliver software to your customers in the future. Expert Instructor: Kent Beck is widely recognized as the father of eXtreme Programming and JUnit. He is the Founder and Director of Three Rivers Institute (TRI). His career has combined the practice of software development with reflection, innovation, and communication. His contributions to software development include patterns for software, the rediscovery of test-first programming, the xUnit family of developer testing tools, and Extreme Programming. He currently divides his time between writing, programming, and coaching. Beck is the author/co-author of Extreme Programming Explained: Embrace Change 2nd Edition, Contributing to Eclipse, Test-Driven Development: By Example, Planning Extreme Programming, The Smalltalk Best Practice Patterns, and the JUnit Pocket Guide. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Oregon. “Kent Beck’s new book Implementation patterns, is based on Kent’s reading of existing code as well as his own programming habits. These patterns are about developers communicating through code which is reminiscent of his earlier work on Smalltalks patterns. They are lower level than design patterns and about the same granularity as Larman’s GRASP patterns. The patterns in this book are meant to be a coherent view of how to write code people can understand that serves human as well as economic needs.” InfoQ Nov 06 2007. Cynthia Andres is a co-author of Extreme Programming Explained: Embrace Change, 2nd Edition. Her professional interests include team and individual psychology and facilitating change with large-scale transformative conversations. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Pacific Union College with advanced work in Women’s Studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz and Psychology at Portland State University.
